The FINANCIAL — Deutsche Post DHL has expanded its Social Memories web application, making it a next-generation online portal for photo products. Effective immediately, Social Memories users can combine photos saved on their hard drives with social network content to create photo books and calendars.
Recipient of last year’s internationally coveted red dot design award, Social Memories launched in May 2011 and was an immediate success, with a Facebook community of over 44,000 fans. But that’s not all. As Deutsche Post DHL reported, users can take content from their private data stores, such as vacation shots and party pictures, and combine them with Facebook content to create their very own personal book of memories. Other social networks such as Twitter and Instagram have also been integrated into the new version of the application. The user-friendly interface makes for quick and easy use.
“Before, postcards were used to share fond memories with friends and family. Today we turn to social networks, such as Facebook and Twitter, when we want to share special events with others,” says Clemens Beckmann, Executive Vice President Innovation MAIL. “Social Memories combines the real with the digital.”
The easy-to-use portal allows users to create a final product in just a few quick and easy steps. Unlike other photo book applications which are involved and complicated, the Social Memories application calls for just a few clicks – or touches, for tablet users – and the memory book is designed, done and ready to order. Starting at the end of December, Social Memories can also be used to create wall calendars in A2 and A3 formats.
The user is given five design templates to choose from to create a stylish and top-quality product. Users interested in integrating video and web content can do so by way of QR codes. Included in the wall calendars are the birthdates select Facebook Friends and a photo documentation of last year’s most important events.
Business customers will soon be able to make use of the Social Memories application as well, taking dialogue marketing and the opportunity for customer acquisition and retention to an all-new level. Social Memories allows companies to use its photo book templates and brand them as their own, adding personal content and photos as they like. Using coupons or links through their own websites, companies can lead their customers onto an individually customized design application.
