The FINANCIAL — President's envoy for the international energy security Bohdan Sokolovskyi has said that the cost of the project of the European-Asian oil transport corridor on the basis of the Odesa-Brody oil pipeline is USD 2-8 billion depending on the oil transportation volumes, he said at a briefing.
He said that the feasibility study endorsed on April 24 envisions three implementation phases.
The first phase envisions the delivery of up to 5 million tons of oil per year to the Naftokhimik Prykarpattia oil refinery and Halychyna oil refinery.
It also envisages the transit of 5-6 million tons of oil towards the western border of Ukraine.
The second stage envisions the transportation of other 10 million tons of oil via the Odesa-Brody towards Polish Plock and Gdansk.
The third stage envisages the increase of the total capacity of the corridor to over 40 million tons a year.
Sokolovskyi said that the cost of the second and the third stages fluctuate from USD 2 billion (20 million tons of oil a year) to USD 8 billion (40 million tons of oil a year).
The cost of the first stage is estimated of several tens of millions of dollars.
The feasibility study of the corridor envisions transportation of Caspian from supplier to end consumers.
He also said that the endorsement of the feasibility study was the condition for further talks between the participants of the project (Azerbaijan, Georgia, Lithuania, Poland, and Ukraine) and other interested parties.
As Ukrainian News earlier reported, at the general meeting on April 24, the participants in the Sarmatia international pipeline enterprise (Poland) endorsed a feasibility report for the project of building the Euro-Asian Oil Transport Corridor (EAOTC) on the basis of the Odesa-Brody oil pipeline in the direct mode (towards Brody).
Sarmatia expects the extension of the Odesa-Brody oil pipeline to Plock and Gdansk (Poland) to be completed until 2012.
In January 2008, the Socar Azerbaijani state oil and gas company, the Georgian Oil and Gas Corporation, and the Lithuanian Klaipedos Nafta joined founders of the Ukrainian-Polish Sarmatia joint venture.
