The FINANCIAL — Southwest Airlines Co. announced on January 10 that the Company flew 4.3 billion revenue passenger miles (RPMs) in December 2004, compared to the 3.9 billion RPMs flown in December 2003.
Available seat miles (ASMs) increased 12.2 percent to 6.9 billion from the December 2003 level of 6.2 billion. The load factor for the month was 62.9 percent, compared to 64.0 percent for the same period last year.
For the fourth quarter 2004, Southwest flew 13.1 billion RPMs, compared to the 11.7 billion RPMs recorded for the same period in 2003, an increase of 12.6 percent. Available seat miles increased 10.5 percent to 20.2 billion from the fourth quarter 2003 level of 18.3 billion. The fourth quarter 2004 load factor was 65.0 percent, compared to 63.8 percent for the same period last year, according to Southwest Airlines.
For the year ended December 31, 2004, Southwest flew 53.4 billion RPMs, compared to the 47.9 billion RPMs recorded for the same period in 2003, an increase of 11.4 percent. Available seat miles increased 7.1 percent to 76.9 billion from the 2003 level of 71.8 billion. The year-to-date load factor was 69.5 percent, compared to 66.8 percent for the same period last year.
