The FINANCIAL — The Eastern Partnership should boost cooperation to reduce energy dependence on Russia, said MEPs and MPs from EaP countries at the fourth Euronest Parliamentary Assembly, which closed in Yerevan on March 19. Assembly resolutions also call for more trade coordination, solidarity with Ukraine, and official recognition of the Armenian genocide.
A resolution drafted by the Assembly’s Energy Security Committee regrets that Russia has used energy to exert political pressure, and urges the EaP to deliver more cooperation with eastern partners so as to “strengthen mutual energy security and to make them more independent and resilient”.

The need to tackle trade complications for EaP countries “sandwiched between the EU and Russia” was also highlighted by Euronest’s EU Co-President Heidi Hautala. “The revised European Neighbourhood Policy should strive to develop our trade and economic relations in a way where choosing would not mean losing,” she said.
