The FINANCIAL — Aston University has been ranked above average by its students for the fourth year in a row, according to new figures in the government’s National Student Survey (NSS).
89 per cent of students working on their first degree praised their overall experience at Aston, while seven degree programmes received overall satisfaction ratings of 100 per cent, the highest in the history of the University.
The results place Aston above many top ranking universities, including University of Warwick, University of Manchester and University of Leicester.
The degree programmes receiving 100% overall satisfaction scores were:
BSc Business & International Relations
BSc Finance
BSc International Business & French
BSc Marketing
BSc Psychology & Business
BSc Psychology & Sociology
LLB Law
Meanwhile, many subject areas also received high ratings. These include:
French (100%)
Finance (100%)
Marketing (100%)
Optometry (96%)
Pharmacy (94%)
English (93%)
Biological Sciences (93%)
Sociology (93%)
Helen Higson, Provost and Deputy Vice Chancellor at Aston University, said: “These results are clear proof that our commitment to delivering an excellent, different, and distinctive university experience is what students are looking for.
“We have consistently performed above average in the NSS over the past four years. This combined with recently being named as the second best institution in the country for quality of teaching by Times Higher Education in its recent analysis of the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) confirms that we are truly among the best universities in the country.”
The NSS 2016 is a widely-respected consensus of nearly half a million students across the UK. The national UK average for first degree student satisfaction was 86 per cent.
The questionnaire asks 22 core questions on several aspects of university life, including teaching, learning resources, assessment and feedback, and personal development.
