TAP awarded “Best Airline in Europe” by the North American magazine Global Traveler

The FINANCIAL — TAP Portugal was awarded ‘Best Airline in Europe’ by the Global Traveler magazine, USA, one of the leading specialized publications in the tourism & travel industry.

The award is very encouraging and means a great deal to TAP, as the company is currently progressing towards a crucial turning period in its long established activity, in the aftermath of its privatization process recently completed with success and culminating the celebration of TAP´s 70th anniversary in 2015, according to TAP Portugal.

“This award shows that the quality product delivered by TAP is largely recognized by the North American market, indeed a strongly competitive and demanding one, and is the outcome of our dedication and hard work in the USA, in recent years, to raise the awareness of the unique features of TAP brand and services. Those are supported on the growing potential of the company´s hub in Lisbon as well as on its strategical advantages as a privileged European gateway fit to grant fast and competitive intercontinental connectivity, namely between North America and Europe”, said Fernando Pinto, TAP CEO.

TAP currently flies to two destinations in the USA – Newark and Miami – operating in average as many as 10 weekly frequencies between Portugal and the United States, of which 7 weeklies departing from Lisbon and Porto to Newark and 3 direct frequencies a week from Lisbon to Miami.

Launched in 2004, with the goal of acknowledging and naming the top in the travel industry, the Global Traveler Awards are one of the most relevant and coveted awards in the industry, which reflect the recognition and the choice of the international travellers.

The winners result from the GT Tested Reader Survey annually conducted by the magazine, asking frequent business and luxury travellers to evaluate and vote for the best in a wide range of travel-related products. In the whole, this year’s edition had more than 22,000 participants who responded to the survey and covered as many as 80 categories, including world-wide airlines, hotels, loyalty programs and many other travel products.

Global Traveler is a leading magazine in its sector, with a very large circulation world-wide. Its readers are frequent premium travelers averaging a considerable number of international round-trip flights a year.

This year’s winners were honored and awarded at a cocktail reception held on December 8, at the Peninsula Beverly Hills in Los Angeles, California.
