The FINANCIAL — TAP Portugal was awarded on September 5 Europe’s Leading Airline to Africa as well as Europe’s Leading Airline to South America, at the gala ceremony of the World Travel Awards (WTA), described by some as the “Oscars” of the industry.
TAP’s in-flight magazine UP was also one of the winners of the current edition of the World Travel Awards, whose ceremony was held at the Forte Village Resort, in Sardinia (Italy) with the accolade of Europe’s Leading Inflight Magazine.
“This award is the recognition of the work that the ‘new TAP’ has been carrying on: developing TAP to become more modern, more efficient and more competitive, a company which is more and more responsive to the needs of our customers and strongly committed to better serving the markets we operate in. Today, TAP is a company that we are all proud of, for it is more capable of competing and expanding, fit to increasingly position as a worldwide reference and living up to the expectations of both our customers and all of us within the company”, said Fernando Pinto, TAP CEO.
This gala ceremony was one evening in which not only TAP but the Portuguese Tourism as well took the stage to collect several awards, among which the highlights also go to UP, TAP’s inflight magazine – one of the main vehicles to promote Portugal and the Portuguese identity worldwide – which was awarded for the second year in a row as Europe’s Leading In-flight Magazine.
Voted among some of the best known airlines worldwide, TAP’s election resulted from an online voting process, mainly by trade professionals in travel & tourism around the world , such as travel agents, operators and tourism organizations from more than 100 countries and by the general public as well, according to TAP.
Launched in 1993, the WTA were created with the aim of acknowledging, rewarding and celebrating the pursuit of excellence in all travel and tourism industry sectors across the Globe.
The trophies now won by TAP join those already collected in the World Travel Awards’ previous editions, such as the WTA Europe’s Leading Airline to both Africa and South America in 2015 and in 2014, the World’s Leading Airline to Africa in 2011 and 2012 and also the title of World’s Leading Airline to South America in 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012, along with the UP magazine, also celebrated as Europe’s Leading Inflight Magazine in 2015.
The election of the WTA winners results from a pre-selection of nominees, held by a global top professional panel of the travel and tourism industry. The winners in each category are chosen by online voting cast.
