The FINANCIAL — Tata Power, India’s largest integrated power company, has been relentlessly working towards environment conservation and is committed to the sustainable growth, protection and conservation of nature. In recognition of this commitment, Tata Power organised a tree plantation drive in Dehrand and Shahapur villages, Maharashtra, on the occasion of Tree Plantation Week.
As part of the tree plantation drive, a total of 300 saplings of fruits and medicinal plants were planted during the week at various locations which included surrounding of schools, grampanchyat building, public ponds and community halls. More than 350 people, comprising of students, villagers, teachers, gram panchayat members, and SHG (self help group) members participated in the initiative. The school students also organised awareness rally to sensitise people about the importance of tree plantation and environmental conservation. according to Tata Sons Ltd.
Speaking on the initiative, Ashok Sethi, COO and ED, Tata Power, said “We, at Tata Power, have always strived hard to provide a greener, cleaner and safer environment to the society and for the future generation. Trees play a vital role and are crucial for biodiversity conservation. This plantation drive is a step towards encouraging people to take care of the surrounding environment and help them understand the importance of planting trees. We will continue to undertake such initiatives that will contribute to make our society greener and healthier.”
The key gram panchayat functionaries from the villages who participated in the plantation drive appreciated the efforts from Tata Power for protecting the environment.
