The FINANCIAL– India’s largest integrated power company Tata Power’s Jojobera thermal power station at Jamshedpur has bagged the Golden Peacock Environment Management award for the year 2012.
According to Tata, the award will be presented at a specially organised gala on July 7, 2012 in New Delhi at a distinguished gathering of business leaders, jurists, academics, environmentalists, economists, legislators and policy makers during the 14th World Congress on Environment Management, which will be held on July 7–8, 2012. P Chidambaram, Union Home Minister, has been invited to be the chief guest and present the Golden Peacock award along with Ambika Soni, Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting. The decision to award the Jojobera plant was taken by a jury under the chairmanship of Justice PN Bhagwati, former Chief Justice of India and member of UN human rights commission.
Speaking on the achievement, Anil Sardana, managing director, Tata Power, said, “It is a matter of pride for us that our Jojobera thermal plant has won laurels for its efforts towards environment conservation. Tata Power has always set standards in adopting sustainable practices in its business and we will continue to lead the path for responsible growth.”
In a separate session on stories of success, representatives from Tata Power will be sharing the initiatives and achievements of the Jojobera plant in the field of environment management.
DS Kudalkar, head, Jojobera thermal power station, said, “We are very happy to receive this award on a national platform and it is a huge boost to our efforts towards environment conservation. We are doing all that we can to carry forward our green legacy and this recognition is a milestone in our journey towards sustainability.”
