The FINANCIAL — TAV Airports Holding, the leading operator of Turkish airports, has grown 4.5 fold in the 10 years since it was established, TAV Airports Holding CEO M. Sani Şener has said, adding that TAV's target for the next 10 years is to raise the number of passengers traveling through its airports from the current 45 million to 100 million along with increasing the total employment of the company from 12,800 to 50,000.
"Delivering a speech at a meeting organized to celebrate 10th anniversary of the company's founding, Şener stated that TAV has achieved significant success since its establishment," Today's Zaman informed.
The company’s turnover is estimated to have been 630-640 million euros for 2009, while this figure was 144 million euros in 2000, representing an increase of more than fourfold in 10 years, he said. TAV’s total employment has risen from 402 in 2000 to 12,800 today, Şener said, adding that they expect this number to reach 50,000 over the next 10 years. During the same period, the number of passengers will also grow to 100 million from the current 45 million, he predicted. The company had set a target of expanding toward North Africa, the Middle East, the Caucasus and the Balkans in 2000, which it has achieved, he said, explaining that TAV carries out operations from Libya to Qatar, Oman to Georgia and Macedonia. “We set our target to increase the number of airports [that we operate] to 10 in 10 years. With the completion of airports in Skopje and Ohrid in Macedonia, we will have reached this goal, too,” he said, adding that the construction of these airports will begin on March 2.
Noting that he attends the Global Airport Development Conference every year, Şener said that when he first went to the event in 2000, he was known by none of the other participants. “Now I am one of the people who delivers the first speeches at the conference,” he said. Şener said the TAV Construction Company is one of the leading construction firms in Turkey and currently carries out operations worth $10 billion.
The company has launched efforts to prevent delays and increase the capacity of İstanbul Atatürk Airport, he said, adding that their primary goal is to turn the airport into one of the most important hubs in Europe. “For this reason, we have been investing continuously. The total amount of money invested by TAV in İstanbul, Ankara, İzmir and Gazipaşa has reached 1.2 billion euros over the last 10 years,” he noted. Şener also said the Havaş Ground Handling Company will go public within two to three years.
