The FINACIAL — On July 5 2008 TBC Bank held awarding ceremony of the literary award Saba for the 6th time already. The event, which took place at the TBC Bank’s Maarjanishvili Branch, revealed the authors of the best works of the last year.
Annual literary award Saba was established in 2003. The founders of the event are: TBC Bank, The Writers’ Association Georgian Pen-Club and the broadcasting company Rustavi 2. The satisfactory award evaluates literary process of the previous year and reveals the best works.
The prize fund by TBC Bank was GEL 36 thousand. The winners of the first 7 nominations were awarded GEL 4 thousand each and the very last 8th nomination winner (Award for special contribution to development of Georgian literature) – GEL 8 thousand.
The jury is changed every year. The new jury consisted of 5 members had started works since March this year. The candidates of Saba 2008 were chosen out of the hundred books discussed.
The winners of Saba 2008 in 8 nominations are:
Aka Morchiladze for the best novel of the year- “Maid in Tiflis”
Maia Sarishvili for the best collection of poems of the year- “Microscope”
David Turashvili for the best play of the year- “Black Sneakers”
David Kartvelishvili the best prosaic work of the year- “Four Stories”
Amiran Arabuli and Eter Tataraidze for the best literary critic of the year- “Remember me with Forgiveness”
Giorgi Lobjanidze for the best translation of the year- “Koran”
Bacho Kvirtia for the best debut of the year- “Till the Train Arrives”
Award for special contribution to development of Georgian literature- Vakhushti Kotetishvili
