The FINANCIAL — In two years Vakhtang Butskhrikidze, General Director of TBC Bank, will finish his active work in the banking sector. “I want to save my time, have a rest and pay more attention to my physical training,” Butskhrikidze has said.
At a meeting with students from Georgian universities, organized by the Business News Students Club, Butskhrikidze excluded going into politics and science after leaving the banking sector.
“To become successful you need to have a sense of leadership, you should have the desire to reach your goal. The most successful person is the one who can effectively merge their private life with their career,” Butskhrikidze says.
Butskhrikidze did not reveal who will take over his position.Â
TBC Bank is owned by International Finance Corporation (IFC), German Investment and Development Company (DEG), and Georgian individuals. The Supervisory Council Members are Mamuka Khazaradze (Chairman), Badri Japaridze, Douglas Gustafson (IFC), David Khazaradze, Bob Meijer, Goga Kekelidze and Steffen Suhany (DEG).
At present TBC Bank has 6 members on the Board of Directors.
Vakhtang Butskhrikidze (General Director), Paata Gadzadze (First Deputy General Director), Alexander Jejelava (Deputy General Director), Vano Baliashvili (Deputy General Director), Nino Masurashvili (Deputy General Director), Giga Bedineishvili (Deputy General Director).
While asking him about his impressions of the conference, he told The FINANCIAL that he was surprised by the students’ activeness, and was pleased with the seriousness of the questions they asked.
“These are people who may become the customers of TBC Bank in the nearest future, so we have to tell them about the priorities of the bank and answer all questions they have about the Bank,” declared Butskhrikidze.
The students had questions about the financial crisis in Georgian banks, including TBC. But the Director of TBC said, “The worst is left behind and now we have to think about future prospects.”
“TBC Bank is among the five leading banks in Georgia, which means that we are one of the best banks in Georgia. TBC has really serious competitors, banks which are among the top five leaders in the local market and global banks like HSBC and Halyk Bank which have just entered our market,” Butskhrikidze says.
Halyk Bank of Kazakhstan is one of the largest universal banks in Kazakhstan.
HSBC Holdings plc is a public limited company incorporated in England and Wales, headquartered in London. As of 2008, it is both the world’s largest banking group and the world’s largest company according to a composite measure by Forbes magazine.
HSBC entered the Georgian marked in 2007. HSBC Bank Georgia started its operations in 2007 with the first branch opened on Rustaveli Ave in Tbilisi in June 2008.
During the conference many students from different universities and faculties tried to get answers to their questions from the person who owns a bank and is the one of the most important persons in Georgian business.
Some of TBC Bank’s collaborators were also attending the conference. They unanimously acknowledged that Butskhrikidze is the best leader and has a great sense of hearing what people have to say and that’s one of the main points that a real leader should inevitably have.
Butskhrikidze himself thinks that the most important thing in a bank’s accomplishment is ruling the costs in the right way, otherwise it will lose its leading position.
“At the beginning TBC bank was focused on very rich people, but then the bank began to think about the middle class and did its best to help these people. Nowadays the bank is not only for very wealthy people, it is always ready to help everyone. To explain by association, we were a Bentley class bank in the early period and for the last two years have been more Toyota,” the Director of TBC said.
