The FINANCIAL — Tbilisi Fashion Week will be taking place from 20-24 November at Grato Passage, a luxury new complex to be opened in 2011 (runway shows) and the Radisson Blu Iveria Hotel (showrooms and accessories exhibition),
Spring-Summer 2011 fashion collections will be presented by a combination of both famous Georgian designers and Newcomers.
Reporters from around the world have been invited to the show. Fashion professionals from France, Italy, Estonia, Ukraine, Belarus, Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan will be attending what will undoubtedly be one of the most fashionable events of 2010.
According to its officials, Tbilisi Fashion Week aims to sustain the regional communication and exhibitions niche in the global fashion industry and be positioned as the best meeting point for eastern and western industry players.
"The collective experience, background and competence of the initiators and partners create a durable platform for organizing this very specific and multifunctional event in accordance with international standards," Tbilisi Fashion Week Organizers said.
The first show was organized by Geofashion 5 month ago. It was attended by famous Italian Designer Roberto Cavalli who left Tbilisi on 7 May, the second day of Fashion week.
"Now we are more experienced and it will help us to make the upcoming event more significant," Kubusidze said.
Among the main partners of TFW are Georgian Events, Geomodels, hotel Radisson Blu Iveria, Amarta magazine, Branding.ge, Legal bureau Gabunia & Partners (intelligence group amovige).
The list of participating designers at Tbilisi Fashion Week is as follows:
Tamuna Ingorokva, Atelie 10A, Nino Chubinishvili, Fashion house "Materia", Salon Atare, Manana Antelidze, Nino Abesadze, George Shagashvili, Datuna Sulikashvili, Marika Kenchadze, Bicholla, Golla Zumbulidze, Ana Changiani and Tamriko Nadiradze, Gvanca Janashia, Salome Amanatishvili, Lika Aladashvili, Nino Kacharava, Mura-Mosso (Merab Kuparadze);
"20 young designers will also be taking part in Tbilisi Fashion Week. They will be evaluated by a competent member of the jury and fashion professionals so, together with already established Georgian designers, the newcomers will present their collections to audiences," Mariam Kubusidze, Organizer of Tbilisi Fashion Week and Founder of Company Geofashion, told The FINANCIAL.
"The young designers will have collection showcases of 5-10 costumes and the Faculty of Fashion Design at Tbilisi State Arts Academy is also actively involved in the organization of this event. Exhibitions, showrooms and master classes will all be held within the frames of Tbilisi Fashion Week, at Radisson Blu Iveria hotel," Kubusidze said.
As Kubusidze says, Georgian designers made new collections specifically for Tbilisi Fashion Week, which inspired the audiences of the Fashion Week held in the Spring. "We are satisfied with the result of the last Fashion Week, but now we want to offer a better, more high quality show," she said.
"The mission of Tbilisi Fashion Week is to reveal new, interesting faces, and create a regional platform for development of the Georgian fashion industry and its popularization abroad," Kubusidze said.
"It's quite a significant achievement that alongside Paris, Tokyo, London, New-York, Milan, Moscow, Kiev and Alma-ATA fashion weeks there exists Tbilisi Fashion Week. It is young but I am sure that this show will find a firm place in the world's fashion industry," Kubusidze said.
Kubusidze notes that Tbilisi Fashion Week in May 2010 attracted the attention of fashion giants. "For example Pier Cardin became interested in Georgian designer Nino Chubinishvili's work as a result of the event," Kubusidze said.
"The two have already met, although Nino is now in Tbilisi preparing for the upcoming show. The designer's popularity has grown much since Fashion Week," Kubusidze said.
"Our aim is to implement some very important directions for Fashion Week. The young designers' shows and exhibition of accessories are one of our most important priorities. We think that the five days should be quite diverse. We are giving a chance to everyone but as you know the market is quite demanding. Competition is very high. You have to fight against the competition and show the consumer that you are exceptional and represent high quality products, and only in such a case will you become more developed and begin to succeed in the sphere," Kubusidzee said.
"Media accreditation of our fashion week began on 1 November. Many famous journalists are planning to visit the country specifically for the five-day event. One of the founders of Tbilisi Fashion Week, Tako Chkheidze, attended Paris Fashion Week where she met many famous journalists, fashion critics, buyers and designers. She held some business negotiations there and invited a number of such people to the upcoming Tbilisi Fashion Week," Kubusidze said.
