The FINANCIAL — As one of the most iconic festivals Georgia has to offer, 25 March will mark the 23rd year of the beloved Tbilisi Jazz Festival.
Constantly striving to provide a platform for the brightest stars, this year will prove no exception with 5-time Grammy award winner Dianne Reeves; legends like Kenny Barron, Dave Holland and Jonathan Blake; and last but not least, rising Brit star Ayanna Witter-Johnson, who will open the event at Rustaveli Theatre.
Alongside these jazz legends, the event will witness performances by different generations of Georgian musicians: from Guja Mardin’s quartet; to Luka Topuria’s quartet; Rezo Kiknadze’s sextet; and Gia Rakviashvili’s trio – all performing their most recent projects.
“We believed that the sophisticated Rustaveli Theatre, where world-class musicians have performed multiple times, would be the perfect fit for this year’s festival. Huge excitement awaits fans as they will witness an exclusive collaboration of jazz giants in the form of Kenny Barron and Dave Holland, as they have recently released an album and are set to perform live together for the first time. Additionally of course there will be Dianne Reeves, the five-time Grammy winning legend with extraordinary vocals. We also wanted to involve the rising star Ayanna Witter-Johnson, who is fast becoming a big artist,” stated Giorgi Kereselidze, General Director of Eastern Promotions.
The Festival opens with Ayana Witter-Johnson’s concert, followed by the trio of Kenny Baron and Dave Holland. Meanwhile, on the same day the Gujardini Quartet will complete the jazz festival at the Zinger Club, where the following day Luka Topuria’s quartet will be performing.
The 23rd Jazz Festival will close on 28 March at Rustaveli Theater with the legendary Diane Reeves performing with a band. A second concert will also take place on the last day of the Festival where Zinger Club will be hosting the Gia Rakviashvili trio.
“Tbilisi Jazz Fest continues to be a success 23 times straight, which is a phenomenal event for both the country and music world in general. It has been a huge honour for TBC Bank to have supported Eastern Promotions, who continue to deliver. As for TBC Status users, we offer a 20% discount on tickets bought from TKT.ge, and I believe that yet another amazing experience awaits everyone who will be attending.”
Within the framework of the Jazz Festival, the virtuosos will conduct masterclasses for Georgian music students. The first masterclass will be held at Tbilisi State Conservatory on 26 March by Ayana Witter-Johnson. And on 28 March at Rustaveli Theater, Diane Reeves will be conducting an open rehearsal for Georgian students and taking questions from aspiring vocalists.
