The FINANCIAL — According to Civil Georgia, president Saakashvili said late on August 29 that Tbilisi was consulting with the United States and European nations to impose sanction on companies, which would invest in Abkhazia or South Ossetia.
“I have already talked with the Americans to impose sanctions. But first of all it is up to us to take an appropriate legislature, which will ban investing in Abkhazia and in the Tskhinvali region and that should be punishable under the law,” Saakashvili said. “We are coordinating this issue with the United States so that it also undertake similar measures against companies, which will do that [invest in Abkhazia or South Ossetia]. We are also having talks individually with the European states.”
