The FINANCIAL — “The last year has been a successful one for Tegeta Motors on all fronts,” Giorgi Mshvildadze, General Director of Tegeta Motors, told The FINANCIAL in an exclusive interview. “The company’s financial indicators, strengthening market positions, organizational development, improving relations with foreigner partners, new service centres opened, increasing number of employees and their development as professionals, together constitute the main achievements of Tegeta Motors in 2012. It is for these reasons that Tegeta Motors was named company of the year by different awards programmes.”
Tegeta Motors has become a company of outstanding quality in the field of auto products and services, as recognized by the Union of Producers, Importers and Customers of Petroleum Products. Tegeta Motors was pronounced one of the winners of the Golden Brand 2012 awards (for the fourth time now), organized by Global Idea and The FINANCIAL.
These achievements have not gone unnoticed. Tegeta Motors was the winner of various other awards too, including Golden Parchment (by GHN news agency).

Q. What was the company’s growth like in 2012?
A. Tegeta Motors experienced 20 percent growth in 2012 compared to 2011. There were increases in all directions of sales; a significant portion of sales are made up by retail sales, which underlines the increase in customers’ loyalty towards Tegeta Motors. We had 40 percent growth in the sale of spare parts which means that overall sales have almost doubled. As for trucks, the company had 30 percent growth in this department due to all the ongoing construction processes in the country. Tegeta Motors recorded growth in the direction of minibuses as well. Sales of Shell motor oil exceeded a million litres. Growth was also seen in sales of accumulators.
The high quality service and international standard service centres ensured that Tegeta Motors was first in Georgia to be awarded ISO 9001:2000 and then ISO 9001:2008 standard international quality certificates in the sphere of vehicle sales and servicing.
Q. Tegeta Motors became the official dealer of different international companies in 2012. How much did the number of foreign partner companies increase by last year?
A. Last year the company signed a contract with French engine oil producer company Motul and thus became its official distributor in Georgia. Tegeta Motors has also become the official representative of Michelin, the largest French tire-producing company. The entrance of the premium brand was extremely significant for the Georgian market. Tegeta Motors took into consideration the wishes of its customers and as a result brought two new brands to the Georgian market – Exide (the world’s largest producer, distributor and recycler of lead-acid batteries) and Optima (provider of ultimate power and endurance in the harshest of environments), both of which are mostly popular with off-roaders.
Tegeta Motors successfully joined with Groupauto International – the distribution network of spare parts and service in the international automobile network which unites suppliers and members of numerous countries included in the group. Groupauto International is totally oriented on quality, the same as Tegeta Motors, and it is this detail that has led to the successful partnership between the two companies.
Georgia is included among the 158 countries worldwide that Gebruder Weiss, the Austrian transportation and Logistics Company with 500 years of history, has branches in. Together with Tegeta Motors Gebruder Weiss has started the construction of a modern logistics centre in Georgia near Tbilisi International Airport. The centre is unique in the Caucasus region and therefore lends strategic importance to Georgia as a country. Tegeta Motors is official local partner of Gebruder Weiss in Georgia.
Gebruder Weiss is investing up to EUR 9 million in this project. The new enterprise will offer a range of services including groupage service, overland transport, air and sea freight and logistics solutions in the region.
Q. What about the expansion of Tegeta Motors? How many new branches does the company have so far?
A. Tegeta Motors opened two new branches in 2012, in Kutaisi and Telavi respectively, and now comprises eighteen branches Georgia-wide. Just a few weeks ago we opened a headquarters in Yerevan – the first multi-brand service centre in Armenia, called Flash-Tegeta Motors. The Georgian brand has already started to expand abroad and intends to be represented across the Caucasian market as successfully as it is so far represented in Armenia. Tegeta Motors’ seventeen years of experience and know-how is interesting for other countries as well. From now on, Armenian car owners will be able to use a service that meets European standards and which has already been implemented in Georgia.
Q. In what ways do Tegeta Motors’ different projects incorporate Corporate Social Responsibility?
A. Employees of Tegeta Motors helped Tbilisi’s old age pensioners at Easter. With the support of Tegeta Motors an auto rally was held with the participation of disabled persons as well as professionals. Then on 1 June, Children’s Day, our company conducted a grand event for vulnerable children.

As a result of the project, six students were later employed at our company.
