The FINANCIAL — Remembering login details to sites and applications is a real hazzle. Mobile authentication enables people to login without usernames and passwords by matching the user to their mobile phone. TeliaSonera has participated in the first mobile ID trial between two EU countries, paving the way for people to use sites and applications abroad.
86% of consumers have left a site when asked to register. 68% are more likely to return to a site that remembers them without passwords. Easy ways to login makes people use online services a lot more. Recently Sonera participated in the first trial of mobile ID cross borders in the EU. Users in Finland and Spain tried the service Mobile Connect to get access to a public service in the other country, according to TeliaSonera.
– Mobile certificate is an easy and safe way to use mobile phone for authentication without the need to remember passwords for different services. The next step is Europe, as Mobile Connect will be integrated to Sonera’s authentication service for enterprises during the spring, says Senior Business Manager Joni Rapanen, Sonera.
Enabling growth in public online services
Mobile Connect is developed by GSM Association and its operator partners and is compatible with EU eIdentification and Trust Services (eIDAS) Regulation. For instance, people can use Mobile Connect to enroll in a foreign university, filing tax returns or accessing medical records from abroad.
How Mobile Connect works
The user clicks the Mobile Connect logo on the site or application and enters their mobile number. A PIN is sent to the mobile and login can be done safely without sharing any personal information. By matching the user to their mobile phone or device, Mobile Connect enables the user to login to websites and applications quickly without having to remember passwords and usernames.
