The FINANCIAL — The Committee of Ministers’ Deputies of the Council of Europe held its 1281st meeting where within the framework of the agenda item “Council of Europe and the Conflict in Georgia”, Georgia’s permanent representative made a statement on the situation in Georgia’s occupied territories and submitted the Ministry’s fourth quarterly report covering the period from October 2016 to December 2016.
The Permanent representative spoke about the closure of the so-called checkpoints across the occupation line in the Abkhazian region, so-called referendum planned in the Tskhinvali region and so-called parliamentary elections held in the Abkhzian region. According to the Georgian delegation such actions grossly violate local residents’ rights to free movement, health, education, family connections, according to MFA of Georgia.
The delegations of 12 Member States of the EU and the Council of Europe made statements in support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. They called upon the Russian Federation to comply with the principles of international law and fulfil its commitments, including those undertaken under the ceasefire agreement of 12 August 2008.
