The FINANCIAL — Colourful clothes will be popular this summer, say the Georgian designers interviewed by The FINANCIAL. Purple, light grey, gold and light brown will be the most popular colours in the coming months. And fashion designers suggest fashion lovers buy colourful swimsuits for the seaside.
“This summer clothes will be quite colourful, light pink, purple, light gray, and yellow will be in style. Thin materials and floral patterns will also be fashionable this summer in Georgia,” says Ani Changiani, Georgian fashion Designer.
“Colourful clothes will dominate in Georgia this summer. For the summer of the year of the Tiger, gold, brown and silver coloured swimsuits will be trendy,” Bakur Bakuradze, one of the leading Georgian Fashion Designers, told The FINANCIAL.
Bakuradze says black and red colours will remain in style in summer 2010.
“Light tones will be more popular this summer. In general summer clothes are always lighter than any other seasons. Sundresses in different colours will be trendy this summer. As the summer arrives multi-coloured bikinis will become in fashion. All-in-one swimsuits will be less popular this summer than bikinis I believe,” says Keti Kalandadze, Georgian Designer.
This summer will be exceptionally colourful, says Maiko Burduli, Head of the Marketing Department of Novo Group, incorporating different famous brands in Georgia.
“Benetton is itself a very colourful brand and this summer it will remain so, but it’s remarkable that Mexx has become more colourful this year too. Usually Mexx offers its customers clothes in more conservative colours but this summer the tendency has changed,” Burduli says.
“Mango is offering more military style clothes this summer and floral-patterned clothes too. It is offering many colourful clothes to its customers,” Burduli says.
“Pastel colours will be very dominant this summer in Georgia and just generally in fashion. The silhouette of a woman this summer is very feminine. The waists of trousers and skirts will be high for women this summer,” Keti Kalandadze says.
Colourful clothes styles are welcomed by Georgian youth.
“I myself like black very much, dark blue and red also, but in summer I prefer to dress in very light colours. This summer I will definitely buy light blue coloured clothes and purple ones too. I prefer to wear bikinis to all-in-one swimsuits and have several of them in different colours. I think that this year I will buy a golden bikini too,” says Keti Okropiridze, 24.
“I usually feel quite tense and serious when wearing dark coloured clothes in the summer. My favourite colour of the season will be light blue. I will choose to buy a white bikinis for the summer. As I am a model I always try to wear open swimsuits so I have many of them and I will definitely buy more for summer,” says Mariam Abramishvili, 19.
The silhouette of a woman should be very tight this summer, designers say.
“Scarves, flowers and many other decorative accessories will be in fashion,” Changiani says.
“High heels, big bags, and colourful diamantes are back,” Bakur Bakuradze says.
“This summer Gripsack bags and colourful shoes will be very popular. Colourful shoes are very attarctive and make women more feminine. Electric Blue and grey shoes will be quite common this summer,” Changiani says.
According to Kalandaze, the main point this summer is that a women in any kind of clothing should remain very feminine. “No matter what the woman wears, jeans and t-shirts or long dresses, the main point is to retain one’s femininity in any kind of clothing,” she says.
“Spring / Summer 2010 is all about mixing the outrageous with the elegant. There is a nod to trends of the past, but this spring, fashion is taking a big step in a new direction. It’s about smart and sexy looks paired with sporty and delicate styles.”

Neutral Tones
Neutral tones create that elegant, barely there look. Champagne, beige and all shades of grey are in. Part of the reason why this neutral colour style has emerged is because there is so much print and energy in other trends this season, which suggests that neutral will also outlive these other trends.
Heavy Print
Everything from boyfriend sweaters to fitted pants are coming in bold geometric patterns and animal prints. This trend both complements and contrasts the neutral tone style. Stripes are still in, but not in their usual form. Expect stripes to take on a new almost optical illusion feel. Heavy print leggings are going to be especially hot for spring.
Very Short Shorts
Hot pants and boy shorts are making this spring all about the legs. Pair them with knee high or over the knee socks for an unexpected sweetness to contrast with the super-sexy. Also, word of wisdom, don’t go too short. There’s a fine line between sexy and leaving little to the imagination.
Masculine Elements
Blazers and vests are still in, but now they’re worn with shorts and leggings. Big shoulders are coming back as well, meaning that the 80s are now officially vintage. Why not play up the masculine tones with a feminine accessory like a hairband or a locket? It will add a little bit of tomboy chic to the outfit.
