The FINANCIAL — On 12-14 April 2016, Georgetown hosted the second round of consultations between the Foreign Ministries of Georgia and the Co-operative Republic of Guyana. The Georgian delegation included Deputy Foreign Minister David Dondua, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to Guyana Otar Berdzenishvili and Second Secretary of the Latin American and Caribbean States Division, the Department of America, Mariam Shonia.
The delegation of Guyana included Vice-President, Foreign Minister Carl Greenidge and representatives of various departments of the Foreign Ministry, according to MFA of Georgia.
Discussions focused on bilateral, regional and multilateral relations between Georgia and Guyana. The delegations underlined the recent progress in development of relations between the two countries and expressed the readiness to enhance sectoral co-operation in the future.
The delegations expressed the adherence to the fundamental principles of the international law. The delegation of Guyana reaffirmed the support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The same day, at the meeting held with Speaker of the National Assembly of Guyana Barton Scotland, the sides focused on the need to enhance bilateral relations between the countries and to develop inter-parliamentary co-operation.
As part of the visit to Guyana, the Georgian delegation held the first official meeting with Colin Granderson, Assistant Secretary-General, Foreign and Community Relations at the CARICOM. Talking points included prospects for future co-operation with the organisation and the progress achieved in relations with the countries of the region.
