The FINANCIAL — On 20-21 April 2015, the second round of bilateral political consultations between the Georgian and Peruvian Foreign Ministries was held in Lima. First Deputy Foreign Minister David Dondua headed the Georgian delegation, while the Peruvian one was led by Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs Claudio de la Puente.
The Georgian Foreign Ministry’s delegation included also Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Peru H.E. Otar Berdzenishvili, Director of the Department of Americas David Chochua, Head of the Levan Mikeladze Diplomatic Training Centre Maia Kipshidze, Counsellor of the Political Department Revaz Chkheidze and Counsellor of the Embassy Ekaterine Rekhviashvili.
The meetings were held at the Foreign Ministry of Peru, the National Congress of Peru, Chamber of Commerce of Lima (LCC) and the Peruvian Diplomatic Academy (PDA), where David Dondua delivered a public lecture on Georgia’s foreign policy priorities, according to MFA Georgia.
The delegations discussed current issues of bilateral relations, including, the importance of high level visits and the need to maintain the mechanism of consultations between the two Foreign Ministries. Talking points also included bilateral agreements, ongoing developments in the region, co-operation within the UN, relations between the legislative branches and the enhancement of the trade potential.
The Peruvian delegation reaffirmed its unwavering support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognised borders.
The Peruvian Diplomatic Academy and the Georgian Levan Mikeladze Diplomatic Training Centre signed a Memorandum of Co-operation. A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Chambers of Commerce of Georgia and Lima.
The sides agreed to hold the 3rd round of political consultations next year in Tbilisi.
Within the visit, a ceremony of inauguration of Georgia’s Honorary Consul to Peru Pilar De Izzard was held. The ceremony was attended by the representatives of legislative and executive branches of the Government of Peru, members of the diplomatic corps accredited in the country and academic and private sectors.
