The FINANCIAL — World Bank, PwC and Ernst & Young were named among the dream workplaces of the majority of business school students interviewed by The FINANCIAL.
The FINANCIAL interviewed approximately 200 students from leading Georgian business schools: International School of Economics (ISET), Caucasus School of Business (CSB), Georgian American University (GAU) and International Black Sea University (IBSU).
The trends of dream workplaces changes depending on the university and no students had similar dreams. Out of ISET students the majority dream of working at the World Bank, while at CSB more wish to be employed at Ernst & Young, the picture changes at GAU where the majority want to be recruited by PwC. As for IBSU a clear trend had not been observed.
46% of interviewed students admitted that its the potential “corporate environment” which makes them narrow down their dream job choice, while 40% said that “financial environment” is important. 11% of those interviewed believe that both the “financial and corporate environment” affects their choice of dream work, while the remaining 6% have different criteria.
The FINANCIAL interviewed 42 students from the International School of Economics at TSU (ISET), out of which 31 were first year students and the remaining 11 – second year students.
The dream workplace of the majority of ISET students is World Bank, nine students would like to work there, followed by BP (7 students). An equal number of students wish to work at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and International Monetary Fund, followed by the Millennium Challenge Georgian Fund, Georgian Gas and Oil Corporation, UN mission in Georgia, SIDA, USAID, National Bank of Georgia, the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development, Eurasian Foundation, Open Society Georgian Foundation, TBC Bank and Bank of Georgia.
While choosing their dream company, 27 ISET students give a priority to “financial environment”, while 13 say “corporate environment” is important. “Motivation system” and “growth perspective” were named by only two students at ISET.
The majority of Caucasus University students dream of working at Ernst & Young, 8 out of 66 interviewed would prefer to work in one of the leading audit firms. Followed by Google (5 students), BAT, Bank of Georgia and TBC Bank (4 students each), Geocell, PwC and running one’s own business are the dream jobs of 3-3 students each.
The list of dream employer companies at CSB includes BP, Deloitte, Wissol, Aldagi BCI, BG Capital, the “Big Four”, Concord Group, Elit Electronics, facebook, Ferrari, Gazprom, Georgian Airways, IBM, KPMG, Magti GSM, Marriott, Mobi Pay, Toyota, USAID, Vogue, Volkswagen, VTB Bank, Wallmart, Barambo, Coca-Cola, private marketing company, any bank and advertising company – each were named as dream workplaces by single individuals.
The majority of those interviewed, 29 students out of 66 at CSB say that “corporate environment” plays a vital role while thinking of their ideal workplace, for 24 students its “financial environment” that matters, while for 5 students both are crucial. The rest of the criteria are “creative environment”, “company history”, “marketing and management”, “professional development” and “independence”.
At GAU, out of 40 of the students interviewed 9 wish to work at PwC, followed by Bank of Georgia and Geocell (4 students), the EU Commission, Google, Bank Republic, Radisson BLU Iveria and TBC Bank (3 students each), two students want to work at the Big Four and Ernst & Young, while the rest wish to work at Elit Electronics, theSheraton, National Museum and Bakur Sulakauri Publication.
As for IBSU, no significant trend was observed. TBC Bank, Bank of Georgia, Radisson, Bank Republic and PwC are the dream employers of some students (2 students each), the list is followed by Goldman Sachs, the Tourism Department, Radio Tavisupleba and HeidelbergCement.
Recently ACT Research, the leading marketing and consulting firm in Georgia published a survey of the most desirable employer in the country. ACT interviewed 1,200 adult residents of Tbilisi and big cities of Georgia in December 2010.
It turned out that in the list of ideal employers, Bank of Georgia and TBC Bank both demonstrate equal popularity (14%-14%). Third and fourth places are shared by Aversi and ProCredit Bank, as 5-5% of the urban population express their desire to work for them. 4% of those ACT interviewed wish to work at Wissol while Aldagi BCI, Energo Pro Georgia, GPC, PSP and GPI Holding capture 3-3% each.
