The Georgian and Swiss Foreign Ministers have welcomed the completion of FTA negotiations with the European Free Trade Association

The FINANCIAL — On the sidelines of the UN Human Rights Council session in Geneva, Georgian Foreign Minister Mikheil Janelidze met his Swiss counterpart, Foreign Minister Didier Burkhalter, according to MFA of Georgia.

The two ministers focused on the issues relating to successful completion of FTA negotiations between Georgia and the European Free Trade Association.

According to the Georgian and Swiss Foreign Ministers, this will contribute to the development of trade-economic relations between Georgia and the EFTA Member States, which will increase the volume of investments to Georgia. The signing of the Free Trade Agreement with the EFTA will also contribute to the deepening of economic co-operation between Georgia and Swiss Confederation.

According to the Swiss Foreign Minister, the Swiss Confederation will provide Georgia with every kind of technical assistance needed for the implementation of the FTA.

Negotiations between Georgia and the EFTA had a successful outcome: the sides agreed to the final version of the text which will be followed by the signing of the Agreement.

The Georgian and Swiss Foreign Minister also emphasised the importance of Georgia’s accession to the UN Human Rights Council for 2016-2018, which will allow the country to make its own contribution to the protection of human rights internationally.
