The FINANCIAL — On 14 September 2015, the Georgian Deputy Foreign Minister Gigi Gigiadze met Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Italy to Georgia H.E.Antonio Enrico Bartoli, according to MFA Georgia.
Discussions focused on the participation of the Sokhumi occupation regime’s delegation in the “Fiera del Levante” exhibition in Bari, Italy. Gigi Gigiadze expressed his extreme concern over this fact underlining that Sokhumi’s participation in similar events as an independent country is directed against Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and is aimed at legitimation of the so-called independence of Abkhazia, therefore, at legitimation of occupation of Georgia’s territories and ethnic cleansing carried out in the country.
Gigi Gigiadze also expressed his regret over the fact that, despite effective measures taken by the Government of Italy, the Sokhumi occupation regime, through the help of lobbyists, manages to establish contacts with municipalities of Italy that contradicts the legislation of Georgia and Italy.
The Italian Ambassador, in turn, expressed his regret over this fact stating that Georgia’s position will be immediately communicated to Rome. Antonio Enrico Bartoli reaffirmed his Government’s unwavering support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and added that the Government of Italy will take relevant measures to prevent such facts in the future.
Georgia’s position on inadmissibility of participation of the Sokhumi occupation regime in the exhibition has been already communicated to the Italian Foreign Ministry and authorities of the region through the Embassy of Georgia in the Republic of Italy.
