The FINANCIAL — On 15 June 2016, Georgian Deputy Foreign Minister David Jalagania met Georgii Nazarov, Ukraine’s Chargé d’Affaires in Georgia.
David Jalagania and Georgii Nazarov discussed the current issues and the bilateral relations between Georgia and Ukraine. The Georgian side expressed its dissatisfaction over the remarks, which were made by Prosecutor General of Ukraine Yury Lutsenko on 14 June in interview to one of the Georgian TV channels and which represent interference in Georgia’s internal affairs. The Georgian side noted that the assessments by the Prosecutor General of Ukraine in connection with the case of Ivane Merabishvili does not correspond to contents of the European Court’s decision, that may be caused by the lack of awareness of the Prosecutor General, which resulted in incorrect assessment of the case. Moreover, this casts a shadow on the existing friendly relations between the two countries.
The Georgian side expressed hope that the Ukrainian side will react appropriately and no similar situation will reoccur, according to MFA of Georgia.
Georgii Nazarov, in turn, noted that he has already received appropriate information in connection with the decision of the European Court and that he will immediately inform Kiev about the position of Georgia.
