The FINANCIAL — On 1 November 2015, Georgian Deputy Foreign Minister David Dondua met the Permanent Representatives of the United States, Canada, Lithuania, Romania and Sweden to the OSCE, who are visiting Georgia. It should be noted that this is the first visit of the OSCE Permanent Representatives to the country since July 2008.
Discussions focused on the so-called “borderisation” and the signature of the so-called “treaties” between the Russian Federation and the Sokhumi and Tskhinvali occupation regimes. It was underlined that Russia’s actions completely contradict the norms and principles of the international law and represent yet another step towards the annexation of Georgia’s occupied regions.
The Georgian side once again expressed its readiness to increase the role of the OSCE in the conflict resolution process, inter alia, through the restoration of the OSCE Mission in Georgia, which is impossible due to Russia’s unconstructive position, according to MFA of Georgia.
David Dondua underlined the participation of the OSCE as Co-Chairs in the Geneva International Discussions. The Georgian Deputy Foreign Minister underlined the necessity of legally-binding non-use of force commitment by Russia as well as international security arrangements in the occupied territories. The need to ensure safe and dignified return of IDPs and refugees to their homes was also underlined.
The OSCE Permanent Representatives will stay in Georgia until 4 November and will hold meetings with high officials of Georgia’s executive and legislative branches, including, President Giorgi Margvelashvili, Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili and Speaker of the Parliament David Usupashvili. Meetings with the Ombudsman’s Office, the EU Monitoring Mission and Civil Society representatives are also planned to be held.
The Permanent Representatives will also visit the occupation line in the village of Khurvaleti to assess the current situation on the spot. The group will also visit the IDPs settlement in Tserovani.
