The FINANCIAL — On 11 April 2016, Georgian Deputy Foreign Minister Khatuna Totladze met UN Special Rapporteur on the sale of children, child prostitution and child pornography Maud de Boer-Buquicchio, according to MFA of Georgia.
The Georgian side informed the UN Special Rapporteur on the reforms carried out in the spheres of human rights, including, child’s rights in the country, and in this context, on the measures taken by the Government of Georgia both at the national and international levels. Talking points also included the National Strategy and Action Plan in Human Rights approved by the Government of Georgia, which provide for development of effective mechanism for protection of child’s rights. The Georgian side once again expressed the readiness to continue close co-operation with the relevant mechanisms of the UN.
Khatuna Totladze underlined the heavy humanitarian situation in Georgia’s occupied regions, focusing on the fact of gross violation of fundamental rights and freedoms of local population, including children. The necessity of establishing international monitoring mechanisms in the occupied regions was also underlined.
The visit of the UN Special Rapporteur, at the standing invitation of the Government of Georgia, started on 11 April and will last until 18 April. Maud de Boer-Buquicchio will meet representatives of legislative, executive and judicial branches, members of the diplomatic corps, representatives of civil society and the Ombudsman, and will visit orphan asylums.
