The FINANCIAL — “Georgia considers Latvia as an important platform in terms of doing business in Europe and as a gate which provides Georgia with access not only to Eastern Europe and Baltic states but also to Europe as a whole” – Georgian Foreign Minister Mikheil Janelidze said this while addressing the participants of the Latvian-Georgian Business Forum. According to him, the political partnership between the two countries should be reflected in economic and trade relations as well.
Mikheil Janelidze provided Latvian businessmen and representatives of the government agencies with information regarding the economic situation and business environment in Georgia. According to him, Georgia has one of the most liberal trade, economic and tax policies in the world, which provides an added stimulus for foreign investors. “You have an opportunity to come to Georgia and carry out specific projects here which serves the interests of not only Georgia but also of Latvia”.
The Georgian Foreign Minister underlined the historical function of Georgia as a link connecting Europe and Asia. In this context he focused on the New Silk Road, Azerbaijan-Turkey-Georgia Railway line and the Anaklia Deep Sea Port construction projects. According to him, Georgia is also an important player in the region in terms of diversification of energy resources and supply of new resources to Europe.
Mikheil Janelidze paid special attention to the Georgian Government’s activities in such areas as tourism, agriculture, logistics and energy. According to him, Georgia is becoming a reliable supplier of clean energy to its neighbours and may supply hydroelectric resources to Europe as well.
On a closing note, Mikheil Janelidze invited Latvian businessmen to Georgia for establishing close contacts with their Georgian counterparts, according to MFA of Georgia.
The Latvian-Georgian Business Forum was held on 3 March as part of the Georgian Foreign Minister’s official visit to the Republic of Latvia.
