The FINANCIAL — On 23 March 2016, Georgian Foreign Minister Mikheil Janelidze held an introductory meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Austria to Georgia Axel Wech (residing in Baku). The meeting from the Austrian side was attended by Gunther Zimmer Head of Office for the South Caucasus of the Austrian Development Agency.
Mikheil Janelidze expressed his satisfaction at the close relations that have been expanding over the years in the areas of politics, trade, economy and development. The sides underlined the increasing number of highest- and high-level visits and the importance of continuing this dynamics. The Minister expressed his gratitude to the Austrian government for its decision to open its embassy in Georgia and expressed the hope that the Austrian diplomatic mission will make a significant contribution to the strengthening of bilateral relations, including economic co-operation.
Mikheil Janelidze thanked Ambassador Axel Wech for his government’s firm support for Georgia’s European aspirations and underlined the need to complete soon the procedures of granting Georgia visa-free travel to the EU, according to MFA of Georgia.
Ambassador Axel Wech reaffirmed the readiness of the Austrian Federal Government to promote the further development of bilateral co-operation with Georgia. In this context, he highlighted forthcoming highest-level visits, which are set to give an additional impetus to the relations between Georgia and Austria.
