The FINANCIAL — On 19 May 2016, Georgian Foreign Minister Mikheil Janelidze met EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus and the crisis in Georgia Herbert Salber, according to MFA of Georgia.
Talking points included the main issues on the agenda of the Geneva International Discussions, including, the necessity of non-use of force commitment by Russia, creation of international security arrangements in the occupied regions and return of the IDPs.
Mikheil Janelidze spoke about the heavy humanitarian situation in Georgia’s occupied territories and underlined the need to carry out international monitoring in the region. The particular emphasis was placed on the ongoing militarization process in Abkhazia and Tskhinvali regions and the implementation of the so-called “treaties” between Russia and the Sukhumi and Tskhinvali regimes.
The Georgian Minister once again underlined the importance of the Geneva International Discussions, as the main instrument of implementation of the 12 August 2008 Ceasefire Agreement. Mikheil Janelidze reaffirmed the readiness of the Georgian side to participate in the Discussions in a result-oriented and constructive manner and thanked the EU Special Representative for the contribution made to the Discussions.
