The FINANCIAL — Georgian Foreign Minister Mikheil Janelidze, in the frames of his visit to Strasbourg, met European Commissioner for Migration, Home Affairs and Citizenship Dimitris Avramopoulos.
At the meeting, the European Commissioner expressed his support for Georgia’s visa liberalisation, welcomed the European Parliament’s Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs Committee (LIBE) voting results and underlined that the support of the majority members of the Committee was a strong political message for Georgia. Dimitris Avramopoulos expressed the hope that the EU relevant institutions would complete soon all procedures necessary for the adoption of final decision that would provide Georgian citizens with the opportunity to enjoy visa-free travel with the EU.
The European Commissioner once again underlined Georgia’s significant progress in all directions and underlined that the reforms Georgia has carried out are exemplary, according to MFA of Georgia.
In the frames of the visit, on 14 September 2016, the Minister held meetings with the members of the European Parliament, Vice-President of the European Parliament Ryszard Czarnecki, President of the ALDE Party Hans van Baalen, EPP Group Coordinator on Foreign Affairs Cristian Preda and President of the Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats Knut Fleckenstein.
In the frames of his two-day visit to Strasbourg, Mikheil Janelidze also met members of the EPP, ALDE and different committees of the European Parliament.
