The Georgian Foreign Minister holds bilateral meetings within the framework of the Meeting of NATO Ministers of Foreign Affairs in Brussels

The FINANCIAL — Georgian Foreign Minister Mikheil Janelidze is on his visit in Brussels where he takes part in the Meeting of NATO Ministers of Foreign Affairs.

On 19 May 2016, on the sidelines of the Ministerial Meeting, Mikheil Janelidze met the Foreign Ministers of Slovakia, Albania and Romania, according to MFA of Georgia.

Discussions focused on topical issues relating to bilateral, as well as multilateral co-operation with the aforesaid countries. The sides paid special attention to the process of preparations for the NATO Summit in Warsaw and to the need of duly assessing the progress Georgia has made on its path of North-Atlantic integration.

Georgian Foreign Minister Mikheil Janelidze thanked his Slovak counterpart for his active support of Georgia. For his part, Miroslav Lajčák reaffirmed that Georgia continues to fully comply with its obligations and the progress it has made in terms of integration with NATO and the EU needs to be duly appraised. The Slovak Foreign Minister expressed his readiness to provide Georgia with practical assistance in the process of Georgia’s Euro-Atlantic integration.

During a meeting with Albanian foreign Minister Ditmir Bushati, the sides highlighted the positive dynamic of political co-operation between the two countries expressing the desire to further deepen economic co-operation. Ditmir Bushati emphasised that the reforms carried out in Georgia should serve as an example for Albania.

At a meeting with Romanian Foreign Minister Lazăr Comănescu, the sides spoke about the friendly relations between Romania and Georgia. Lazăr Comănescu reaffirmed the Romanian Government’s support for Georgia’s Euro-Atlantic aspirations. The Ministers emphasised the necessity to further deepen co-operation within the Black Sea format in order to make a better use of the Black Sea potential in developing international transit routes.

On the sidelines of the NATO Ministerial Meeting, Mikheil Janelidze will take part in a meeting of the foreign ministers of the countries participating in NATO’s Resolute Support mission in Afghanistan.
