The FINANCIAL — On 9 November 2015, the President of Georgia hosted a reception evening dedicated to the High-Level International Conference on Gender Equality, according to MFA of Georgia.
President of Georgia Giorgi Margvelashvili and Georgian Vice Prime Minister, Foreign Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili addressed the gathering of invited guests.
Giorgi Kvirikashvili thanked the attending audience for participation in the conference. According to him, paramount importance needs to be attached to gender equality and advancement of women’s role in executive and legislative branches of the government.
“Georgia is a country where women have always played a critical role in terms of building Georgian statehood. Let me reiterate that the establishment of gender equality as a fundamental principle of democracy is highly important to the Georgian Government especially today when our country is engaged in carrying out substantial reforms as stipulated by the Association Agenda. We are currently implementing serious institutional and legislative reforms, and in this context, upholding the principle of gender equality is essentially important – Giorgi Kvirikashvili said.
The International High-Level Conference: Achieving Gender Equality – Challenges and Opportunities in the European Neighbourhood Policy (ENP) Region is due to open on 10 November. Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice-President of the Commission, Federica Mogherini, and Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations, Assistant Administrator of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Director of the UNDP Regional Bureau for Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States, Cihan Sultanoglu, will open the High-Level Conference. The Georgian Foreign Minister will deliver introductory remarks. Around 250 guests and high-ranking officials will take part in the event held at the initiative of the Georgian Government in partnership with the United Nations and the European Union.
