The FINANCIAL — A traditional meeting of the Organisation for Democracy and Economic Development – GUAM Foreign Ministers Council, under the chairmanship of Ukraine, was held as part of the OSCE Ministerial Council meeting in Belgrade, on 3 December 2015. Vice Prime Minister, Foreign Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili, Foreign Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan Elmar Mammadyarov, Moldovan Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Natalia Gherman, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin and GUAM Secretary General Valeri Chechelashvili took part in the meeting.
The Ministers focused on the main issues of current political sectoral and inter-parliamentary co-operation within the Organisation; discussed and gave a positive assessment to the “GUAM+” format co-operation with the main partner countries of the Organisation (the U.S., Japan) and other international and regional organisations, according to MFA of Georgia.
The GUAM Foreign Ministers Council thanked Valeri Chechelashvili for successful and productive activity at the post of the GUAM Secretary General and welcomed the appointment of Altai Efendiev to the post of GUAM Secretary General starting from 1 January 2016.
The Foreign Ministers also made a decision to transfer the chairmanship of the Organisation for Democracy and Economic Development – GUAM in 2016 to Azerbaijan. At the end of the meeting, the minutes of the meeting was signed.
The same day, in Belgrade, a regular meeting in the GUAM-Japan format was also held. The GUAM Foreign Ministers and Japanese State Minister for Foreign Affairs Yoji Muto took part in the meeting. The participants of the meeting focused on the fruitful and successful co-operation and prospects for its enhancement in the frames of the format and on the main aspects of the regional co-operation. In conclusion, the sides signed the GUAM-Japan Cooperation Programme, promoting the strengthening of co-operation with Japan, as the main partner of the Organisation, in the spheres of common interest.
