The FINANCIAL — The olympic flag handover ceremony has taken place, with London passing over the flag to Rio de Janeiro in Brazil, where the next Olympic Games will be held in 2016.
Yesterday, during the closing ceremony, Eduardo Paes, mayor of Rio, was personally handed the olympic flag by the mayor of London, Boris Johnson. As Air France reported, the olympic flag will travel with Air France to Brazil, thus inaugurating the Olympiades, the four year period elapsing before the next Olympic Games, hosted by Rio.
On this occasion, members of the Brazilian olympic delegation are also flying London-Paris-Rio with Air France today. 35 passengers including the mayor of Rio, the president of the Brazilian Olympic Committee, athletes, journalists and the governor of the state of Rio are bringing back the olympic flag with them. A big party will be organized to celebrate their arrival at Rio de Janeiro airport.
On departure from Paris-Charles de Gaulle to Brazil, Air France operates two daily flights to Rio de Janeiro and two flights to Sao Paulo.
