The FINANCIAL — The equity trading volume on the Spanish Stock Exchange in the first eight months totalled €480.34 billion, down 27.2% from the same period in 2011.
The trading volume in August reached €33.58 billion, 52.5% down on August 2011, which was one of the best months in history due to the extraordinary events surrounding the euro.
The number of trades in the first eight months came in at 31million, down 2.9% from the same period in 2011. The number of trades in August reached 2.3 million, down 47% from the same period last year.
As for the ETF segment, the trading volume in August came in at €690 million, up 235% from July 2012 and up 154% from the same period last year. The trading volume for the first eight months of the year totalled €1.95 billion, down 13.6% year on year. The number of trades in ETFs in August reached 6,259, up 38% from the same month in 2011. The trading volume for the first eight months was 40,425, up 34% year on year.
As Bolsa de Madrid reported, in August trading on BME’s Derivatives Market came in at 2.94 million contracts, up 3.5% from the same period last year. The trading volume for the first eight months totaled 44 million contracts, up 3.7% from the same period last year.
Trading volumes increased in Options on Indices, with 334,981 contracts traded in August, an increase of 90% from August 2011 and Options on Stocks, with 2 million contracts traded in August, up 34% from the same month in 2011. The trading volume to the end of August totaled 2.27 million contracts in Options on Indices and 21.82 million contracts in Options on Stocks, up 67% and 26% year on year respectively.
The volume of warrants and certificates admitted to trading in 2012 totaled 4,564. Trading on this market in the first eight months totaled €566 million, down 48% from the same period in 2011. The trading volume in August came in at €70.6million, up 17.5% from July 2012 and down 63% from the same period last year.
Trading on BME’s Corporate Debt market in August reached €192.69 billion, down 59.3% from the same period last year, while the number of trades for the same period reached 165,735, five times as high as the figure recorded in the same period last year. The trading volume for the first eight months of the year totaled 861.839 billion, up 80.3% year on year.
New issues in August reached €18.35 billion, up 27.7% year on year. In the first eight months of the year, new admissions were up 65.4% from the same period last year, at €273.59 billion, a very similar figure to that for the entire year 2011.The outstanding balance at the end of August came in at €902.28 billion, up 6% year on year.
