The FINANCIAL — Tata Power, India’s largest integrated power company, through its 100 percent subsidiary Coastal Gujarat Power (CGPL) has always been a front runner in undertaking activities for the benefit and improvement of the youth of the region. In line with the commitment, CGPL along with Tunda Sports Club organized the third season of Akhil Gujarat Night Cricket Tournament. The event was aimed at encouraging the engagement of the youth of the region in sports and culture and spread the message of harmony. The grand finale was graced by the presence of ace Indian all-rounder – Irfan Pathan.
During his visit Irfan Pathan interacted with the CGPL cricket team, residents and members of the Ekta ladies club. Irfan Pathan was also felicitated by K.K Sharma, ED and CEO, CGPL, and Deepa Sharma, president of Ekta Ladies Club at the CGPL Aashiyana township. The ace cricketer also appreciated CGPL’s efforts for promotion of sports and culture in the region and for infusing the spirit of sportsmanship among rural youth, according to Tata Sons LTD.
The objective of the tournament was to showcase youth as the champions of sustainable growth in the region. They will help in propagating the essence of beneficiary contributions and accountability in the growth process and work as change agents to communicate to the community that effective development warrants individuals to commit themselves towards collective development.
Speaking on the impact and the various initiatives, Mr Sharma said, “We, at Tata Power have always stressed on the holistic development of the youth population in its operational area and sports is one of the best ways to engage with them. The Akhil Gujarat Night Cricket Tournament has served as a great platform to engage with the young population of the region. CGPL strongly believes that mobilisation of local youth through regular engagements will essentially strengthen the foundation of the youth platform and events like the Akhil Gujarat Night Cricket Tournament will certainly help reinforcing the commitment.”
The cricket tournament has certainly created a sense of team building and has helped in fostering the spirit of collective work among the young population in the region. CGPL, through its efforts is trying to boost the morale of the the youth to institutionalize and discuss the needs on the actual ground level needs.
The third season of Akhil Gujarat Night Cricket Tournament spanned over a month and involved 94 teams from different villages of Kutch and all other locations of Gujarat, supported by CGPL-TPCDT. The finals were held at the Tunda Sports Ground, developed by CGPL and presently managed by the Tunda Gram Panchayat and Tunda Sports Club. The final match was played in front of over 10,000 spectators including Irfan Pathan, Tarachandbhai Chheda, MoS, Cottage Industry, Salt Industry and Cow Breeding, Government of Gujarat; Vinodbhai Chavda, MP Kutch; KK Sharma, ED and CEO, CGPL; Makrand Chauhan superintendent of police – West Kutch, and other dignitaries from the government and CGPL.
