The FINANCIAL — Thomson and First Choice have announced their winter 2016 flying programme from Birmingham Airport which includes a new winter route to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.
The programme also features new flexible 10 and 11 night durations to Sal, Cape Verde, as well as short breaks and daytrips to Lapland, according to Birmingham Airport.
The move to introduce these routes is part of the holiday company’s strategy to ensure customers across the UK can fly from their local airport and stay at the best hotels in some of the most exciting destinations around the world.
Customers travelling from Birmingham will have access to some of Thomson and First Choice’s most popular flagship hotels, including the Thomson Sensatori Resort in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic and the Melia Dunas Resort in Sal, Cape Verde.
The Sensatori Resort in Punta Cana is located on the golden sands of Uvero Alto beach, 60 km north of Punta Cana airport. The hotel features an adults-only section, decadent honeymoon suites with Jacuzzis, spacious family suites and eight restaurants. Those flying to the Melia Dunas Resort in Sal will be able to step straight from one of five pools to the private beach, and can chose from a huge variety of deluxe rooms, suites and family rooms.
Karen Switzer, Director of Aviation Planning for Thomson and First Choice, said: “Adding more choice and flexibility for winter 2016 demonstrates our commitment to Birmingham Airport and the local area. We are pleased to be able to extend our long haul winter offering with the introduction of the Dominican Republic, allowing our customers in the Birmingham area to experience even more exciting holidays travelling on our revolutionary 787 Dreamliner.
“Expanding access to our portfolio of destinations and hotels is a key part of our overall strategy and we hope that this move will enhance the holiday experience for our customers.”
William Pearson, Aviation Development Director at Birmingham Airport, said: “We are delighted that Thomson and First Choice are continuing to expand their services from Birmingham and responding to passenger requirements. Demand for more choice of winter destination and frequency of flights continues to grow amongst passengers choosing Birmingham as their preferred UK airport.
“The Caribbean has year round popularity but particularly so during December to April and we are sure that Thomson and First Choice’s direct flights to the Dominican Republic will be very well received.”
