The FINANCIAL — Vice Prime Minister for Economy Serhii Tihipko admits that Ukraine may attract USD 19-20 billion from the International Monetary Fund within 2.5 years, he told the Ekonomicheskie Izvestia.
He said that the government intends to channel these funds for the covering state budget deficit and replenishment of gold and currency reserves.
Tihipko said that the revision of gas contracts between Russia and Ukraine was welcomed in Washington, the United States.
At the same time, Tihipko believes that the government should take unpopular measures and raise the tariffs.
The vice prime minister said that Ukraine needs the cooperation with the Fund.
Tihipko hopes that his talks with the representatives of the IMF in Washington will be fruitful and allow the resumption of the cooperation between Ukraine and the Fund.
As Ukrainian News earlier reported, Prime Minister Mykola Azarov had said that the Cabinet of Ministers considers it inexpedient to attract the fourth tranche of the IMF to finance the state budget deficit.
