The FINANCIAL — Housing starts rose 6.8% on the year to 72,838 units in November, the sixth straight month of increases, the Land Ministry said on December 27, according to Nikkei.com.
Starts of owner-occupied homes rose 7.1% to 27,235 units, up for the 13th straight month, while those of rental houses declined 9.5% to 26,703 units, down for the second straight month.
Starts of condominiums and homes built for sale jumped 46.3% to 18,549 units, up for the ninth month in a row.
Starts of condominiums alone soared 106.1% to 8,922 units, the sixth straight month of expansion.
