The FINANCIAL — Sales of new cars and trucks rose 35.1% year on year to 294,887 units in February, marking the seventh straight month of increase, the Japan Automobile Dealers Association said on March 1.
"Passenger car sales surged 39.2% to 270,389 units. Of these, 131,548 were standard-size models, up 72.2%, and 138,841 were compact vehicles, up 17.8%," Nikkei.com says.
Sales of trucks increased 2.4% to 7,538 units.
By maker, Toyota Motor Corp. (7203) — excluding models made by Daihatsu Motor Co. (7262), Hino Motors Ltd. (7205) and Lexus — sold 146,145 new cars, up 47.9% and marking the seventh straight monthly rise.
Nissan Motor Co. (7201) saw a 17.8% jump to 47,948 units, the sixth straight month of year-on-year expansion.
Honda Motor Co. (7267) sold 36.2% more to 41,009 units, the 11th straight monthly rise, while Mazda Motor Corp. (7261) sold 16,252 cars, up 43.7% and the fifth consecutive month of increase.
Mitsubishi Motors Corp. (7211) sold 6,000 vehicles, up 54.6% and marking the seventh straight month of rise.
