The FINANCIAL — As Americans return to their routines after the Midterms and Thanksgiving holiday, their views of the country are essentially unchanged. This week President Trump’s approval rating remains stable – 44% of all Americans approve of the job he is doing as president.
President Trump’s support comes primarily from his base: 85% of Republicans approve of him, compared to 39% of Independents and 14% of Democrats. Furthermore, only a third (33%) of the public says that the country is heading in the right direction. This sentiment is felt especially by Republicans (65%), but just 13% of Democrats believe America is headed on the right path.
Healthcare (18%) and immigration (17%) continue to top the list of important problems Americans think the country is facing. People of different political affiliations have different priorities when it comes to the most important problem facing the country.
A third of Republicans (32%) state that immigration is the most prominent issue, while a quarter of Democrats (24%) think it’s healthcare. Just 39% of Americans approve of Trump’s handling of healthcare, and 44% approve of his handling of immigration.
With the UN Climate Summit to meet in Poland next week, just 5% of Americans believe that the environment is the biggest problem facing the country today, and just 37% of Americans approve of the way Trump is handling the environment.
As the 115th Congress begins its lame duck session, 29% of Americans approve about the way Congress as a whole is handling its job. Americans are more likely to approve of their individual Representative, with almost half (46%) of Americans saying they support their Congressperson.
