The FINANCIAL — According to Vano Mtvralashvili, Head of the Union of Oil Product Enterprisers, Importers and Customers, 454,696,418 litres of petroleum and 373,756,951 litres of diesel were imported to Georgia in 2009.
The Association of Oil Products Importers and Distributors (NIA) names the same amount of petroleum imported to Georgia. But data for diesel import is different – 372,199,446 litres.
“The total amount of imported A-92 Petroleum (Regular) in 2009 totalled 371,846,182 litres. The A-95 (Euro Regular) imported to Georgia totalled 72,799,711 litres and A-98 (Super) Petroleum’s amount imported to Georgia in 2009 was 10,050,525,” Mtvralashvili notes.
“The number of 50 PPM Diesel imported to Georgia last year was 91,641,358 litres. L-62 Diesel amounted to 276,669,858 litres and DT Diesel’s number totalled 5,445,735 litres,” Mtvralashvili told The FINANCIAL.
As the officials of Head of the Union of Oil Product Enterprisers, Importers and Customers note, the overall amount of Diesel and Petroleum imported to Georgia in 2009 was 828,453,369 litres.
SOCAR Georgia, sister company of Azerbaijan’s State company SOCAR remains the largest supplier of oil distributors in Georgia. According to the Association of Oil Products Importers and Distributors NIA, Azeri company SOCAR Georgia Petroleum was the largest importer of petroleum and diesel in 2009 with the amount of 192,877 tonnes of petroleum and 178,454 tonnes of diesel imported to Georgia.
“SOCAR Georgia Petroleum is the single largest importer of petrol and diesel in Georgia. It imports up to 30,000 tonnes of oil products from Azerbaijan each month. The company is expanding rapidly by increasing its network of petrol stations around the country. SGP’s strategic development plan includes construction of petroleum storage depots using modern technologies and develop its network of petrol stations up to 60,” SOCAR officials note.
“Eko-Georgia imported 12,134 tonnes of petroleum and 1,650 tonnes of diesel last year while Lukoil imported 75,468 tonnes of petroleum and 18,810 tonnes of diesel last year,” notes NIA.
According to NIA, Rompetrol imported 103,107 tonnes of petroleum and 36,357 tonnes of diesel in 2009.
Company Wissol imported 55,806 tonnes of petroleum to Georgia in 2009 and 28,001 tonnes of diesel, according to NIA.”
According to NIA, the leader in total imports of gasoline and diesel to Georgia in 2008 was SOCAR Georgia Petroleum. The company imported 192.623 metric tonnes (MT) of gasoline and 175.046 MT of diesel.

3. Rompetrol Georgia – 69.232 MT
4. Wissol Petroleum Georgia – 34.772 MT
5. Eko-Georgia – 14.783 MT
Total import of Diesel in 2008:
1. SOCAR Georgia Petroleum – 175.046 MT
2. Wissol Petroleum Georgia – 73.804 MT
