The FINANCIAL — Sales manager, sales specialist, cashier and marketing manager are some of the most demanded professions at the moment, so reveals one of the HR experts interviewed by The FINANCIAL.
“Demand for different professions changes often. As is usual demand for professions is regulated by the market and is determined by the economic conditions and total image of the country. Fashion has a very big influence on professions,” says Lili Bibilashvili, Head of HR Department JSC Nikora and Director of HR department of Caucasus University.
“Companies have realized that products need to be sold, even during a recession, and so they have raised the demand for people working in the sphere of sales,” Bibilashvili says.
According to Bibilashvili journalism was once a very fashionable profession but there were not enough professionals, that’s why demand for journalists rose at the time whereas at the moment demand has subsided. “This occupation is not very well compensated, only a few journalists have good salaries, most of the people who chose this vocation did it in order to become famous,” Bibilashvili told The FINANCIAL.
“Lately demand for marketing as a profession has slightly decreased but currently it looks as though its popularity will soon be on the increase again. Unfortunately today less attention is paid to such professions as technology specialists who are much demanded on the market but are pretty scarce. There is demand for accounting and for designers too. Recently the faculty of governance has also become popular,” Bibilashvili says.
According to Michael Gotiashvili, Project Manager of MyCareer.ge, over the last 5 years most students have been studying Finance, they foresee this profession as one of the most well paid.
MyCareer.ge is a local online social network focused on the business community. According to its officials companies are able to find the most reliable and professional employees with the help of Mycareer.
“I myself think that it is easier to get a job in the sphere of management than in finance. According to MyCareer’s experience, the most demanded spheres are management, sales and financing departments. Companies are able to find the most reliable and professional employees with the help of Mycareer,” Gotiashvili says.
“Nearly all of the companies currently existing in the country have realized that even during a crisis marketing is very important. The PR faculty is not as prestigious as it was in the past. When the crisis started and reached a certain level marketing and HR departments were the first to be downsized. Companies thought that HR and marketing were extra expenditures and so they started reducing the numbers of the their employees in this field but soon realized the value of the professionals and so once more they are in demand,” Lili Bibilashvili explains.
According to Bibilashvili Banking was very popular among students but over the last two years demand for it has reduced by about 60%.
“Companies also have a demand for IT workers, banks most of all. The situation has changed a bit now and the trend of massive reduction of employees has come to an end but since we are not out of the woods yet it is the private companies that are the biggest employers at the moment,” Gotiashvili says.
“Demand for banking might have reduced, because students have realized that banks have made cutbacks on the numbers of their employees and so there will be no need for graduates in the sphere in the near future. Marketing can also be named one of the most demanded professions at the moment and the Georgian university faculties of law and media are also popular,” Gotiashvili explains.
According to Lili Bibilashvili there is a demand for research and manufacturing but undoubtedly there has always been demand for professionals in these spheres.
“The prestige of a profession is determined by the salary and image of the company which thereby influences demand for it,” Bibilashvili adds.
