The FINANCIAL — According to APA-Economics, the 4th conference of the TRACECA Intergovernmental Commission passed a number of decisions in Astana on December 12-13.
Akif Mustafayev, Head of the TRACECA’s Azerbaijani National Secretariat, said the conference discussed a draft framework agreement on multimodal transportation, changes and additions to the technical amendment to the Basic Multilateral Agreement, Draft Model Law on Transport Forwarders, TRACECA projects in 2008, presence of Romania and Bulgaria , 2008-2009 Action Plan, TRACECA Development Strategy for the period up to 2015, 2008 budget, establishment of Business Consulting Council, organization of the 10th anniversary etc.
The meeting also designated representatives from Bulgaria, Kyrgyzstan and Moldova as TRACECA auditors for 2008.
In 2007 the auditors were Azerbaijan, Turkey and Kazakhstan.
According to Mustafayev, presence of new EU members- Bulgaria and Romania in TRACECA was also discussed.
“They both will stay in TRACECA. If any TRACECA decision doesn’t come in line with EU law, these states will not accept it,” he added.
The conference also approved a Memorandum of Cooperation between the TRACECA Intergovernmental Commission Permanent Secretariat and the BSECO Secretariat.
The meeting also passed a decision to abolish “the post of second secretary”.
The TRACECA Intergovernmental Commission Chairmanship rotated from Bulgaria to Kazakhstan and Rustam Janalinov was appointed General Secretary for 2008.
The conference was also attended by ambassadors of Iran and Afghanistan which aspire to join the TRACECA.
The TRACEA Intergovernmental Commission was established in 1998. Headquartered in Baku, TRACECA joins 12 countries from Europe and Asia.
