The FINANCIAL — Best practices in maritime security were in focus at a three-day workshop held in the Romanian capital Bucharest, organized by the EU-funded TRACECA Maritime Safety and Security II project, which supports common security management, maritime safety and ship pollution prevention in the Eastern Neighbourhood and Central Asia.
The workshop was dedicated to national Maritime Security Laws and associated decrees in conformity with the SOLAS Convention and the ISPS Code, according to EU Neighbourhood Info.
Participants highlighted the situation in their respective countries related to the National Maritime Security regulatory framework as well as the practical security situation at ports and port facilities.
They also visited the General Inspectorate of Border Police, where they were familiarized with the organisation and activities of the Inspectorate.
The TRACECA Maritime Safety and Security II project supports the development of common security management, maritime safety and ship pollution prevention in the Eastern Neighbourhood and Central Asian TRACECA partner countries. It seeks to help the countries to converge on the EU norms and standards in the field, especially with the EU’s Third Maritime Safety Package. The project also seeks to address specific needs at national level. It builds on the achievements of the prior TRACECA Maritime Safety I (SASEPOL) project.
