The FINANCIAL — The price of transporting is hitting a new record in 2008. Nearly all transporting means plan to increase prices. The prices of municipal transport means such as metro and buses were even increased in 2007 by 20 tetri.
As well as municipal transport, the price on air tickets was globally increased from November 1, 2007. Prices of air-tickets for all international flights were increased in Georgia by GEL 30-40.
In accordance with The International Air Transport Association (IATA) requirements the tickets should be sold in EUR. In regards to this, all air companies operating in Georgia and providing international flights had to transfer ticket prices from USD to EUR.
Â
According to statistics more than 20 thousand people use municipal transport and most of them are of middle average income. The municipal transport price rise is hitting the population harder than the air tickets price rise.
According to Nino Giorgobiani, Head of Marketing of Georgian Airways (the national airline of the Caucasus republic of Georgia), the air tickets price rise did not hit sales indexes.
“After increasing prices, the number of clients was really not reduced as people who want to fly internationally do not generally mind an increased price by GEL 30-40,” Giorgobiani declared to The FINANCIAL.
In general the process of prise rising is causing discontent among customers. Now private routers have decided to increase prices by several tetri. Private routers who transport passengers from Tbilisi to Rustavi increased the price of a ticket by 50 tetri.    Â
According to the drivers of these internal routes, the price increasing is due to the rise of the price of petrol.
Gasoline prices rose by 10 tetri on November 12, 2007. All leading petrol importers have been obliged to increase prices again.
The price rise affected several types of gasoline. Lukoil Company increased the price of Premium Avangard and Euro Regular by 10 tetri.
According to Lukoil Company, today the company offers oil products at the following price range: Super – GEL Per litre 1, 82 (85), Premium avant-garde – GEL Per litre 1, 72 (75), Euro Diesel GEL Per litre – 1, 82 (85).
According to today’s rates Wissol Petroleum Georgia is offering the same products at the following prices. Euro Products: Super Maxpower – GEL Per litre (VAT included) 1.90, Premium Power – GEL Per litre (VAT included) 1. 75, Euro Regular – GEL Per litre (VAT included) 1.70. Econom Pack: Diesel Standard – GEL Per litre (VAT included) 1. 85.
The FINANCIAL got in contact with private taxi-operates, according to them the petrol price rise struck private taxis, but the companies are trying to keep the same prices so as not to touch customers’ pockets. According to the operators, fixed prices do not exist. They are dependent on the distance a customer wants to go, although today the approximate price of a taxi is GEL 10 in the city for a middle distance.
