The FINANCIAL — The Turkish automotive industry has established the Automotive Technology Platform (OTEP) to keep a close eye on technological developments in the global auto manufacturing industry.
In a written statement on July 12, when the group held its first meeting, OTEP said the major reason behind the foundation of the platform is to keep Turkish automotive producers informed about current and upcoming technological innovations, which have gained a special importance during these times when global producers are vying to lead with new-generation, fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly vehicles.
The statement also stated that OTEP aims to play a vital role in improving national research and development and innovation capacities as well as fueling the creation of a technology strategy for the country. OTEP wishes "to bring forth a new economy out of technology," the statement read.
"Among OTEP's founders are the Association of Automotive Parts and Components Manufacturers (TAYSAD), a number of auto manufacturing companies, engineering firms and universities," Today's Zaman informs.
At the group's first meeting, participants largely dealt with determining the strong and weak aspects of the Turkish auto industry, while also contemplating which fields the technological push must target first.
OTEP said it has already become a member of the European Road Transport Research Advisory Council (ERTRAC) and the European Automotive Research Partners Association (EARPA).
