The FINANCIAL — According to abc.az., The National Bank of Azerbaijan (NBA) registers almost 2-fold increase of card turnover races in the country, the volume of which exceeded $2.198 billion for the first half-year according to exchange rate by July 1.
The NBA informed that as of July 1, the country’s banks issued 3.124 million active cards versus 2.927 million cards by April 1 and 2.787 million cards by January 1, 2008.
By July 1 it was conducted 18.263 million transactions via active cards for an amount of AZN 1.779 billion. At the same time the main volume of transactions (17.506 million ones) and the major turnover (AZN 1.565 bn) fell to debit cards. Credit cards provided only 757,000 transactions for AZN 214 million.
As of July 1, 1,406 ATMs and 6,889 POS terminals were operating in Azerbaijan versus 1,317 ATMs and 5,309 POS terminals by January 1, 2008. The exchange rate by July 1: AZN 0.8093 = USD 1.
