The FINANCIAL — Moldova is a key EU partner, President of the European Council Donald Tusk said on February 26 after meeting Moldovan Prime Minister Chiril Gaburici in Brussels, adding the Association Agreement signed last year brought a new depth to the relationship.
“Moldova is transforming itself into a modern European state. Implementing the agreement, and pushing ahead with much-needed reforms, will speed up this process,” said Tusk.
He said they had discussed the need for more action to fight corruption, reform the justice sector and improve investment conditions, adding the EU would support Moldova, financially and with technical support. More trade with Europe will create unprecedented opportunities for businesses, boost inward investment and create new jobs in Moldova, he said, according to EU Neighbourhood Info Centre.
Tusk stressed EU support for efforts to settle the Transnistrian conflict, based on the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Moldova with a special status for Transnistria.
